Free Fertilizer!
Did you know that all of the plants inside our greenhouses are fertilized every time we water?
All of our hoses are hooked into a system that injects a diluted fertilizer solution into the water lines. Typically, it is a Professional Formula MiracleGro or Peters fertilizer.

Did you also know that you can take advantage of this system for FREE? Just bring your own clean, empty jugs (milk, juice, and water jugs all work well) and you can fill them up at special spigots in our houseplant area. Fill as many as you like, as often as you like...it's a great solution for offices, as well as at home, if you don't want the mess of mixing your own dilution.

The water is a light blue color; be sure to label your jugs so everyone knows what they are for!

Helpful Websites
From time to time, we would like to share helpful resources with you, such as this one:
The County Extension Offices are not just for farmers and 4-H! They have always been an excellent resource for any horticulturally related questions, and one we use frequently when we are stumped! Greene County Extension agent Gerry Mahan wrote in a recent Dayton Daily News column about the launch of a new website bringing together the best of the national network of Extension Offices' websites.
www.eXtension.org looks like an excellent resource for Lawn, Garden, and Houseplant information. You can register with the site to get more localized information as well.
This looks like one worth exploring, and bookmarking for future reference as well.

Christmas Cactus: Heirloom Plants
Sometimes a plant is more than a plant, and Christmas Cactus seem to be one of those. Often living for many, many years, and being easily propagated, these seasonally-flowering beauties often become heirlooms passed down from family member to family member.
Not truly a cactus, they are closer to the orchid family, coming from tropical locations and often living on a "host" plant. We found some great information and growing tips here that you might enjoy.
Do you have any plants that have been passed down? Leave a comment about your special plant, or any questions you may have about this holiday favorite.
