Gardener's Gift Idea
If you love a gardener, you may already be seeing the signs of cabin fever: long, distant staring out the window, flipping through months-old magazines, near-smothering attention to houseplants... Ease their suffering with a fun, different houseplant to dote on...it just may be enough to get you both through until spring! Here are a few suggestions: Anthurium "Volcano Plant" Easy to care for, colorful, and definitely unique, these Anthuriums are growing directly on a large piece of volcanic lava rock. Simply submerge the rock in water once a week, drain, place in a moderately sunny spot and enjoy! For more ideas,
Norfolk Island Pine These lovely, airy tropical pines make a darling Christmas decoration for their desk with a few bows, but they are also a long-lasting houseplant. They can grow for years and years given the right conditions (north or east light, slightly dry between waterings) and come in tiny 4" pot-size to substantial 10" pot-size. Christmas Cactus A long-time favorite, their cascading blooms are looked forward to every year. Many people find they become heirloom plants: easy to grow from cuttings and pass along to friends and family. Water sparingly, allowing to dry between waterings, and provide a well-lit spot. Rosemary Topiary Stylish, fragrant, and tasty: these petite topiaries will fit neatly on a sunny windowsill for snipping, or line several up in decorative pots on your dining table for a new style of centerpiece. Pineapple Plant Sometimes plants are named for what they look like, rather than what they are (the Zebra Plant is striped, but has no actual zebras, for example), but in this case it is what it says it is! A real Pineapple Plant, with fruit! Easy to grow and propogate, and a definite novelty conversation starter, we only have a few of these!
