New Arrivals: Big Summer Color!
After the big, exciting rush of spring planting, you might think that a gardener's choices are getting more limited as summer moves in; but you would be wrong! New shipments of gorgeous shrubs, hydrangeas, and colorful perennials have just arrived: 'Amber Jubilee' Ninebark is a brilliant example of colorful foliage all summer long that just gets better when autumn approaches. We never get tired of different hydrangeas; the new 'Pink Beauty' sports unique purple-tinted foliage and giant, bright pink blooms.
Hardy Hibiscus are center stage now as they begin to make themselves known in the local landscape this year: super-sized blooms are the focal point of the landscape through summer. Many varieties of coreopsis also contribute bloooms for the coming months; 'Route 66' is a current favorite with it's two-toned burgundy and gold flowers.
Don't count annuals out yet, either! Crops grown just for summer in larger pots make big color statements easy to achieve: look for heat-loving lantana and purslane, as well as spreading petunias, begonias, and more.
